A chozuya built during the Kyoho era that still remains after the atomic bombing

Nihohime Shrine is located in Nishimotoura-cho, Minami-ku. The Chozuya (purification fountain) on the grounds was built during the Kyoho era (1716-1736). The shrine was hit by the atomic bomb on August 6, 1945 (Showa 20), 3.62 kilometers from the hypocenter. The main hall and worship hall remained after the bombing, but were destroyed in a suspicious fire in September 2007 (Heisei 19). The Chozuya (purification fountain) is the only building that survived the bombing. A new shrine building was completed at the end of November 2010 (Heisei 22).
