The worship hall and main shrine were severely damaged by the blast.

Surrounded by trees, Kouriki Shrine is located on Miyanoyama, a small hill in Kurumeki, Tosaka, Higashi Ward. The worship hall was built in 1805 (Bunka 2) during the late Edo period, and the main hall in 1912 (Taisho 1). The atomic bomb was dropped on August 6, 1945 (Showa 20), 4.98 kilometers from the hypocenter. The shrine was hit directly by the blast, and one of the pillars on the west side of the worship hall was pushed 10 centimeters inward, causing the earthen wall to collapse. The ceiling and roof of the eastern room were penetrated. The damage was also significant, with a drum measuring approximately 2 shaku 2 sun in diameter on the west side being blown all the way to the eastern pillar, and 30 votive plaques (wooden plaques) scattered all over the place.
