A stalk of Crinum umbellata that was exposed to the atomic bomb 2,200 meters from the hypocenter was transplanted from Kamakura to the Peace Memorial Park in 1969 (Showa 44). This crinum umbellata was exposed to the atomic bomb in Minamidanbara-cho, Minami Ward (Hiroshima Women's Commercial High School, where the Army Naval Artillery Corps Medical Training Unit was stationed at the time), but a former Japanese Army soldier found a sprout coming out of the bulb one month after the bombing, and brought it back to his home in Kamakura to grow.
