The statue was erected by high school students who collected donations in hopes of peace.

This statue was erected by high school students, mainly from the "Association to Create a Peace Statue for the Children of the World in Hiroshima," who raised over 8 million yen through street donations. The inscription on the monument reads, "This statue is a message of love and peace from the children of Hiroshima for a world without nuclear weapons. Erected on August 6, 2001."
