A memorial tower to console the spirits of students who lost their lives during mobilization.
Date of construction: July 15, 1967 In order to make up for the labor shortage, the government issued the Student Labor Order in August 1944, forcing junior high school students and above to do labor service at munitions factories and other facilities. In November, many students were also mobilized to demolish buildings and create fire zones to prevent the spread of fires during air raids. On the day of the bombing, about 8,400 students from elementary schools and higher were working on building evacuation in Hiroshima City, and about 6,300 of them were killed. Many students who were working at various business establishments in the city also became victims. After the war, the government allowed the mobilized students who died in the atomic bombing or air raids to be enshrined at Yasukuni Shrine (enshrined together at one shrine) only if their names and dates of death were known. In response to this, this tower was built with donations from bereaved families who started a movement to create a list of names.
