A-bombed tombstone (gravestone at the ruins of Jisen-ji Temple)

Gravestones exposed to the blast, standing on the ground as they were at the time of the atomic bombing.

The area where the Ota River splits into the Motoyasu River and the Honkawa River was called "Jisenji no Hana" (Jisenji Nose) because there was a Jodo sect temple called Jisenji there. The temple was about 200 meters from the hypocenter, and all the buildings were destroyed. The head priest and two other people died instantly while cleaning, and the head priest's wife, who was doing laundry in the bathroom, was seriously injured and died the next day. In the end, everyone died. The powerful blast blew away and scattered many gravestones in the temple grounds. This grave (about 270 meters from the hypocenter) remains as it was at the time of the bombing. It belongs to the Okamoto Palace of the Asano family of the Hiroshima domain. In the Peace Memorial Park, this is the only place where the ground remains as it was at the time of the bombing. Because the park was built on piled earth, the area was surrounded by stones, and this part, which looks like the bottom of a pond, is the ground of Hiroshima at that time.
