Preserving the memory of Nakajima Honcho, a victim of the atomic bomb

Date erected: August 6, 1956 Nakajima Honmachi was close to the hypocenter, and almost all of its residents were killed, with 458 people killed. After the war, this area was turned into a peace memorial park, and the survivors were forced to move elsewhere, and the town disappeared. In front of the statue is the "Nakajima Honmachi Atomic Bombing Reconstruction Map," which was created by members of the Nakajima Honmachi Association, which was formed by the surviving townspeople, using their memories of the time and aerial photographs taken by the U.S. military, in an effort to perpetuate the feelings and memories of the lost town.
