A monument commemorating the 250 volunteers from Kawauchi Village who left behind their families and became victims of the atomic bomb.

Date of establishment: August 6, 1964 (Showa 39) The Volunteer Citizen Corps was organized in various regions in 1945 (Showa 20) in preparation for the decisive battle for the mainland, and all Japanese men between the ages of 15 and 60 and women between the ages of 17 and 40 were enrolled. On August 6, 250 members of the volunteer corps from Kawauchi Village were working on building evacuation near Nakajima Shinmachi, about 600 meters from the hypocenter, and all of them died. All of the members who died were the main breadwinners for their families, and the elderly, children and women who were left behind were forced to live difficult lives.

From Hiroshima Station, take the Hiroshima Electric Railway (streetcar) and get off at Atomic Bomb Dome-mae, or from Hiroshima Station, take the Hiroshima Bus bound for Yoshijima Office and get off at Peace Memorial Park. Along the main river on the west side of the Hiroshima International Conference Center.
