The word "peace" is engraved in the languages of 49 countries.

Completed on July 30, 2005. Ten glass gates, each 9 meters high, 2.6 meters wide, and 1.6 meters deep, stand parallel to the pillars of the Peace Memorial Museum over a 75-meter stretch. The gates and the paving stones at their base are inscribed with the word "peace" in 49 languages. They were created by French artist Clara Altherr and architect Jean-Michel Wilmotte, and were donated to the city on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the atomic bombing. The "Gates of Peace" represent a "bridge" of memory and hope that transcends history and opens up to the future.
