A monument commemorating the atomic bomb victims of the once prosperous former Tenjin Town Kitagumi

Established: February 1973 Tenjin-cho is a corner of the Nakajima district, which flourished as the center of the city's downtown and entertainment district. The lively atmosphere of the town, where many people live as a shopping district, is described on an explanatory board alongside the monument that reads ``Old Tenjin Town Kitagumi Ruins.'' However, just 500 meters from the hypocenter, the house was completely destroyed in an instant, and it is said that not only the residents but also the junior high school students and female students who had been mobilized for the work died instantly, as the area had been designated as a building evacuation area along with the neighboring town. . The fire was so intense that even those who returned in the evening looking for their relatives were unable to enter. The town, which was reduced to ashes, was turned into a Peace Memorial Park after the war.
