The guardian deity of eastern Hiroshima that has continued since the early Kamakura period.
Said to be its predecessor, Shiiki Hachimangu Shrine, which was founded in the early Kamakura period, is widely revered as the guardian deity of the evil direction of Hiroshima Castle and as the chief deity of eastern Hiroshima. The shrine buildings were burned down at the end of the Edo period and rebuilt at its current location. In 1868, the first year of the Meiji period, Chokunin, the 12th lord of Asano, renamed it Tsurubane Hachimangu Shrine, and in 1872, it was renamed Tsurubane Shrine. It is said that the name was given because Mount Futaba (Mount Shiiki) behind the shrine resembles a crane with its wings spread. Along with the shrine buildings, which were rebuilt after the atomic bombing in 1945, there are also torii gates, lanterns, and stone-paved drum bridge that remain unchanged from ancient times.
