A famous temple connected to the Asano family, the grave of Kuranosuke Oishi's wife Riku

Originally called Ankokuji, the temple was renamed Kokutaiji after Fukushima Masanori's younger brother Fusho was invited to become the chief priest, and at the same time it was converted to the Soto sect. After the Fukushima clan was abolished, the temple gained the support of the Asano family and became their family temple. As a temple with ties to the Asano family, the grave of Oishi Kuranosuke's wife Riku can be found within the temple grounds. In 1978, as Hiroshima city was undergoing reconstruction, the temple was moved from the center of Hiroshima to its current location.
