One of Hiroshima's three major festivals, the Hiroshima Goshi Festival has survived the atomic bomb and has continued uninterrupted for over 410 years.

It began in 1603, when the town elders requested Fukushima Masanori to enshrine Ebisu, the guardian deity of Yoshida-cho, at the current location to help the town prosper. The god of business was enshrined here, and a market was opened to promote the exchange of goods. Since then, Ebisu has been worshipped as the god of business to this day. In particular, the Hiroshima Ebisu Festival, held for three days every year from November 18th to 20th, is one of Hiroshima's three major festivals, and is affectionately known as Ebessan. The Hiroshima Ebisu Festival has a tradition of over 410 years and has continued to this day without ever being interrupted, even in the face of the atomic bomb. The shrine building has been rebuilt twice since the war, and is now in its current form.
