A temple that was protected by successive feudal lords, overlooking Kanawa Island and overlooking the ships of Hiroshima Port.

Kannonji Temple, which overlooks Kanawajima Island in front and the ships coming in and out of Hiroshima Port below, is said to have been restored by Zen priest Keiun in the early Edo period. The temple has a history of being under the patronage of successive feudal lords, including Mori Terumoto, Fukushima Masanori, and the Asano clan. The main hall houses a wooden standing statue of Amitabha Buddha, an important tangible cultural property of Hiroshima city. In front of the main hall stands an old Hiroshima camellia tree that originated from the Asano clan and is said to be about 400 years old.
