A wooden eleven-faced, thousand-armed Kannon statue is said to have been created by Kobo Daishi.
The place name Otsuka, Numata-cho, Asaminami-ku, is an area that has appeared on the stage of history since ancient times, even appearing in letters from around the 13th century. Jiko-ji Temple is home to a wooden standing statue of eleven-headed thousand-armed Kannon (with two cast standing statues of Amida Nyorai), designated as an Important Tangible Cultural Property of Hiroshima City, which is said to have been made by Kobo Daishi. It is said that Otsuka Shirobei Yoshikuni, lord of Kishinojo Castle in this area, built Jiko-ji Temple for this statue. *The wooden standing statue of eleven-headed thousand-armed Kannon is located at a different address (2123 Kannon-ko, Otsuka-oaza, Numata-cho, Asaminami-ku).
