Anrakuji Temple was built in 1533 (Tenbun 2) at its current location (Ushida Honmachi, Higashi Ward). It was destroyed in a major fire in Hiroshima Castle in 1758 (Horeki 8), but the main hall was rebuilt in 1788 (Tenmei 8). On August 6, 1945, the temple was hit by the atomic bomb 2.19 kilometers from the hypocenter, leaving only the framework of the main hall and temple gate, and the temple kitchen was also destroyed. Anrakuji Temple's wooden seated statue of Nyoirin Kannon Bodhisattva is designated as an Important Tangible Cultural Property by the city of Hiroshima.
