Tokuo-ji Temple is a Jodo sect temple that was founded by the founder of Kouon-ji Temple in Wakayama, Kishu, Shinyo Tokuo Shonin during the Keicho era. Later, in 1619, Tokuo-ji Temple in Kishu was moved by his disciple, Jakuyo Sonteki, who accompanied Asano Nagaaki from Wakayama, Kishu to Hiroshima. The Chishinshu states that it was erected during the Kan'ei era. The wooden Amida Triad, the main image of the temple, has been identified by experts as having been made between the mid-Muromachi and Momoyama periods and has been designated a Hiroshima City Cultural Property. The temple is not open to the public. The temple grounds, located 1.5 km from the hypocenter of the atomic bomb, feature the Six Life-Size Stone Jizo Statues, which were reduced to five by the bombing, and trees that were also affected by the bombing, such as red plums and maples.
