Monument honoring the achievements of Ironman Yoshio Kinugasa
The Kinugasa Yoshio World Record Memorial is one of the monuments in Shouri Forest, located near the site of the old Hiroshima Municipal Baseball Stadium. Kinugasa Yoshio (1947-2018), known by the nickname "Iron Man," joined the Hiroshima Carp in 1965 and played as an infielder before retiring in 1987. On August 4, 1980, he set a new Japanese record of 1,247 consecutive games played, and on June 13, 1987, he set a new world record of 2,131 consecutive games played. He continued to break records thereafter, and on October 22, 1987, he set a new world record of 2,215 consecutive games played. This monument was erected in honor of his achievements.
