Since ancient times, it has been a place of bustling traffic of goods as the entrance to the Unseki Highway, which connects Yin and Yang. In 1905, Japan's first domestically produced bus ran between Yokokawa and Kabe, and in 2004, the 100th anniversary of the bus's launch, this bus was restored to its actual size with the cooperation of many local residents. This bus was named "Kayoko Bus" and is on permanent display in Yokokawa Station Square as a symbol of the area. This shopping street is located in front of the station, taking advantage of its location as the second largest transportation hub in Hiroshima City, and has over 180 stores of various sizes. Earthquake-proofing work has been completed under the Yokokawa Station overpass, and various stores are increasing in both the east and west. Many of the shops are privately owned, so the unique store owners are one of the attractions. A new art dissemination center is scheduled to open in the future, and the murals will be renewed, allowing you to easily explore the city while experiencing art. The women's soccer team "Angeviolet Hiroshima", which was born in Yokogawa, is also integrated into the town, and players work there, so even when there are no events, you can enjoy the shopping street from various angles, with art, sports, and unique store owners. In recent years, the number of restaurants has been increasing, but the number of unique retail stores is also increasing, making the town more attractive. Artists are active in the local movie theater, small theater, and studio, and the shuttle bus service started, which led to exchanges with Sanfrecce Hiroshima, making this a lively shopping street with many different faces.
