The bell tower, which has been preserved as it was at the time of the atomic bombing, rings a bell to commemorate the souls and pray for peace.
Tamon-in Temple, located 1.75 km from the hypocenter, suffered extensive damage to its main hall and kitchen, as well as the collapse of Bishamon-do and the mountain gate. The roof and ceiling of the bell tower were destroyed, and the crossbeams that connected the beams at right angles to the pillars were torn, but the building has been preserved as it was at the time of the bombing, simulating collapse. It will be preserved forever as the wooden structure closest to the hypocenter. The bell was donated and lost during the war, but on August 5, 1949 (Showa 24), it was recast as the "Peace Bell" using sand from the bombed area and a memorial service was held. This was thanks to the heartfelt donations and memorial services of the surviving families of those who died in the bombing. The bell is engraved with the words "No more Hiroshima," the Kannon statue that appeared in the sky above Hiroshima City, and the Komyo mantra. It is rung every day at 8:15 a.m., the time of the atomic bombing, to commemorate the dead and pray for peace.
