The main hall and vault were destroyed by the blast, and only the main gate survived.
Jokoji Temple in Kojin-cho, Minami Ward, was hit by the bomb 2.10 kilometers from the hypocenter. It seems that many houses in this area were completely destroyed or burned down. The main hall and temple kitchen of Jokoji Temple collapsed in the blast and were subsequently destroyed in a fire. However, the temple gate, which was built in 1690 (Genroku 3), managed to escape the fire. In 1996 (Heisei 8), preservation work was carried out as part of the Hiroshima City Atomic Bombed Buildings Preservation and Succession Project, and the devastation of the bombing is being conveyed to future generations.
