The main hall was exposed to the blast wave of the atomic bomb and is still tilted to the north, and the large ginkgo tree that was destroyed in the fireworks still stands in the precincts.
Anrakuji Temple was built in 1533 (Tenbun 2) at its current location (Ushida Honmachi, Higashi Ward). It was destroyed in a major fire in Hiroshima Castle in 1758 (Horeki 8), but the main hall was rebuilt in 1788 (Tenmei 8). On August 6, 1945, the temple was hit by an atomic bomb 2.19 kilometers from the hypocenter, leaving only the framework of the main hall and temple gate, and the temple kitchen also collapsed. The main hall still leans to the north, and scorched marks remain on the eaves. A large ginkgo tree that protected the temple from the flames of the atomic bomb still stands tall in the temple grounds.
