A famous garden beloved by successive feudal lords After Fukushima Masanori was transferred to Kawanakajima in Shinano Province in 1619, Asano Nagaakira came to Hiroshima from Wakayama in Kishu as the new feudal lord. Shukkeien Garden was built the following year as a villa for the Asano family, and is also affectionately known as "Sentei." The person who was ordered by Nagaaki to build the garden was Ueda Soko, a senior retainer at the time and a renowned tea master. He created the garden to imitate the scenery of West Lake in Zhejiang Province, China, from which the name "Shukukeien" is said to have been derived. ACCESS

10 minutes walk from Hiroshima Station. Alternatively, take the Hiroshima Electric Railway train from Hiroshima Station and get off at Hatchobori. Transfer to the "Hakushima Line" and get off at "Shukkeien-mae" and walk for 2 minutes, or take the Hiroshima sightseeing loop bus "Maple?pu" and get off at the Hiroshima Prefectural Museum of Art bus stop and walk for 3 minutes.
