Places related to Kojiki and Nihon Shoki
It is said that Emperor Jimmu (the first emperor) stopped here on his journey to pacify Japan. The Kojiki records that he stayed at Takeri Palace in Aki Province (Akinokuni) for seven years, while the Nihon Shoki records it as Aimiya. This Takeri Palace or Aimiya palace of Emperor Jimmu later became this shrine. Additionally, Takeya Shrine's name is recorded in the Engishiki, a legal code from the Heian period, as one of the three great shrines in Aki Province (among the nation's leading shrines), along with Itsukishima Shrine (Itsukushima Shrine) and Hayatani Shrine.
