You can pick blueberries in the middle of Hiroshima!
[Japan's first urban building rooftop blueberry garden] The Kamiyacho Blueberry Garden is a rooftop greening initiative that was started as a 40th anniversary project of Sunmall. As global warming progresses, the garden was started in November 2012 on a site of approximately 400 square meters (20m x 20m) on the rooftop parking lot of Sunmall, with the concept of "greening and a place where everyone can gather" as an environmental consideration in the city center. The rooftop is a concrete floor, but by introducing the 21st century blueberry cultivation method "bag culture system" (hydroponic cultivation), it became possible to grow blueberries on the rooftop. We are currently cultivating 27 varieties of blueberries under the guidance of Yamazakura Blueberry Garden. Kamiyacho Blueberry Garden, which opened in June 2013, is now in its 12th year. We hope that everyone will enjoy the experience of picking blueberries that have grown larger and more fruitful in 2024.
