Monument to the "Ninoshima Temporary Field Hospital," a site where atomic bomb victims were treated

In July 1945, shortly after the Akatsuki Unit's ship medical unit moved its headquarters to Ninoshima Quarantine Station, victims of the atomic bombing were taken in by the quarantine station. The 53rd Hospital Ship Medical Unit, stationed at Ninoshima Quarantine Station, which was designated as a temporary field hospital, also provided medical care to victims of the bomb. This monument was erected to commemorate this historical fact and to commemorate the dead.
