Every year on October 24th, the park and the local neighborhood association hold the Atomic Bomb Jizo Festival.
[Date of erection] 1960 [Erected by] Mikami Hayagami [History] Immediately after the bombing, many victims of the atomic bomb were cremated in this area. In 1954, a nursery school called Shirahatoen was opened in the area that is now the park, and in 1960, the principal at the time erected a Jizo statue to pray for the souls of those who died in the atomic bombing and for the safety of the children. In 1971, Shirahatoen merged with Kanzaki Nursery School and closed down, and the site was developed into a park, leaving the Jizo statue as it was. In 1980, a hall and information board were built by the residents and staff of Funairi Mutsumi Nursery School, located to the north. Every year on October 24th, the "Atomic Bomb Jizo Festival" is held, co-sponsored by the nursery school and the neighborhood association.
