Atomic bomb memorial tower for those related to Sakancho and the surrounding area

On either side of the tower are memorial plaques listing the names of the 263 victims.

[Date of erection] August 6, 1951 [Erected by] Residents of Sakan-cho and all those connected with the area [History] At the time, Sakan-cho (550 meters from the hypocenter) was located in what is now Tokaichi-cho 1-chome and Honkawa-cho 1-chome. The damage caused by the atomic bomb in this town was enormous, with houses completely destroyed or burned down, and it is said that approximately 91% of the casualties were instant deaths. After the disaster, residents of the town who returned raised donations to erect the tower to commemorate the victims. On either side of the tower are memorial monuments with the names of the 263 victims inscribed on them.
