[Date of construction] October 1945 [Builder] Tosaka Village [History] The Tosaka area was relatively far from the hypocenter, so it did not sustain much damage from the atomic bomb. However, after the bombing, villagers and military doctors from the Tosaka branch of the Army Hospital, located at Tosaka National School (now Tosaka Elementary School), worked to provide relief to the many victims who had evacuated from the city center. Approximately 600 people who died in the area were cremated by villagers and others, and their remains were temporarily buried on Mt. Nagao in October 1945, where a memorial tower was erected as a marker. The remains were placed in the Atomic Bomb Memorial Tower in the Peace Memorial Park in April 1959. In April 1995, the memorial tower was moved to its current location.
