[Date of construction] May 1951 [Constructor] Seiganji Temple and all the bereaved families [History] The advance party of the Kawauchi Village Volunteer Citizen Corps, which was dispatched from Onui, Kawauchi Village, Asa County (currently Kawauchi District, Asaminami Ward) to Nakajima Shinmachi (currently Nakajima Town, 650 meters from the hypocenter), was exposed to the bomb while working on building evacuation at the site and was completely wiped out. The following party was exposed to the bomb on the way to the site, and although some returned unscathed, many later suffered from radiation sickness. The monument was originally erected at Seiganji Temple in Zaimokucho (currently Nakajima Town), and was moved to its current location in May 1965 (Showa 40) when the temple was relocated to Mitaki. There is also another monument, the "Volunteer Corps Monument" (Naka Ward), to commemorate the victims of the Kawauchi Village Volunteer Citizen Corps, just like this one. In addition, there is the Kawauchi Village War Dead and War Disaster Memorial Tower (Asa-Minami Ward), a monument to commemorate the war dead of Kawauchi Village, including those who died in the volunteer corps.
