Koamicho Atomic Bomb Memorial (Memorial for the Women's Volunteer Corps, Volunteer Corps, and Mobilized Students)

Many junior high school students and workplace and local volunteer corps were mobilized in Koamicho to help with the cleanup work required for building evacuation, and were exposed to the atomic bomb while they were there, resulting in many casualties.

[Date of erection] August 1976 [Erected by] Koamicho Neighborhood Association [History] Many junior high school students and workplace and local volunteer corps were exposed to the bomb while mobilizing in Koamicho (900 meters from the hypocenter) to help with the cleanup of building evacuation work, resulting in many casualties. The head priest of Sankoji Temple (Koamicho) mourned the victims. In 1948, the people of the town erected a wooden marker at the temple to commemorate the 950 victims. In 1976, the surviving family replaced the decaying wooden marker with a stone monument, and it was moved to its current location around 1995.
