Memorial Monument for the Martyred Volunteer National Corps (Memorial Monument for the Residents of Kannon-Nishi District)

In the Kannon Nishi district, 270 residents were dispatched to the prefectural office in Mizunushi-cho to help with evacuation of buildings, and all of them were killed.

[Date of erection] August 6, 1971 [Erecter] Kiichi Arimatsu (donated), Memorial Monument Construction Committee [History] 270 residents of the Kannon Nishi district were dispatched to the prefectural office in Mizunushi-cho (now Kako-cho) (900 meters from the hypocenter) to help with building evacuation, and all of them were killed. This monument was erected to commemorate these victims.
