Date of erection: August 6, 1985 Established by: Chugoku Shimbun Workers' Union History of erection: As a volunteer corps based on workplace units, newspaper workers who were involved in the demolition of buildings at the Hiroshima Prefectural Office at the time were exposed to the atomic bomb near the site where the monument was erected. The monument is designed as an abstract version of the initial letter "P" for "peace" and "press," and expresses a vow never to pick up a pen, take a camera, or turn a rotary press again because of war, as well as a deep mourning for the victims. The names of the 132 victims are inscribed on the monument.
