Monument in memory of staff and students of Hiroshima Prefectural Hiroshima First Girls' High School

The stone pillar at the back right is one of the gate pillars from that time.

[Date of construction] August 1955 [Established by] First Prefectural Girls' High School Association for the Survivors of the Atomic Bomb [History] At the time, the main gate of Hiroshima Prefectural First Girls' High School (now Hiroshima Minami High School) was located here, 600 meters from the hypocenter. The school building collapsed and burned down in the blast. In addition to the students who were in school that day, many other casualties occurred, including first-year students who were helping with building evacuation and the teachers who were supervising them. The stone pillar in the back right is one of the gate pillars from that time.
