The monument that was erected uses part of the curbstone from the old building that was damaged in the atomic bomb, and represents "8:15 a.m.", the time the atomic bomb was dropped.
[Date of construction] August 6, 2005 [Constructor] NHK Hiroshima Broadcasting Station [History] The first Hiroshima Broadcasting Station, completed in 1928, was located in Kami-nagarikawa-cho (now Nobori-cho, 1 km from the hypocenter). The station was devastated by the atomic bomb, but resumed broadcasting the next day using facilities that had survived the disaster. Hiroshima Broadcasting Station was later relocated to Otemachi in 1960, but the old building that was damaged was used as the Nobori-cho Annex of Fukuya Department Store until it was demolished in 1997 due to deterioration. The monument was erected on the 60th anniversary of the bombing to convey the horror of nuclear weapons to the world and to vow to forever pass on the desire for lasting peace. It uses part of the curbstone from the damaged old building to represent "8:15 a.m.", the time the atomic bomb was dropped.
