They were working on demolishing buildings at Hiroshima Prefectural Hiroshima Second Girls' High School when the bomb was dropped, and all but one of them were killed.
[Date of construction] August 6, 1952 [Established by] Kounan Alumni Association and Survivors' Association [History] A class of second-year students from Hiroshima Prefectural Hiroshima Second Girls' High School (now Hiroshima Minami High School) was exposed to the atomic bomb while working on building evacuation in this area (Zakoba-cho, now Kokutaiji-cho 1-chome), 1.2 kilometers from the hypocenter, and all but one student died. The monument is built on the same base as the "Monument to the Martyrs of Hiroshima Women's Higher Normal School and its Affiliated Yamanaka Girls' High School," which commemorates the students who were exposed to the atomic bomb and lost their lives in the same place. In addition, at the entrance to Kojin-do, there is a stone pillar that reads "Atomic Bomb Memorial Zakoba Evacuation Site Site."
