The first and second year students of Yamanaka Girls' High School attached to Hiroshima Women's Higher Normal School were working on demolishing buildings in this area, 1.2 kilometers from the hypocenter, when the atomic bomb was dropped, and all but one of them were killed.
[Date of construction] August 6, 1952 [Established by] Tachibana Taka-kai (alumni association) and bereaved families association [History] The first and second year students of Yama Junior and Senior High School attached to Hiroshima Women's Higher Normal School (now Fukuyama Junior and Senior High School attached to Hiroshima University) were exposed to the atomic bomb while working on building evacuation in this area (Zakoba-cho, now Kokutaiji-cho 1-chome), 1.2 kilometers from the hypocenter, and all but one of them were killed. There were also many students from Hiroshima Women's Higher Normal School (now Hiroshima University) who were mobilized to work in munitions factories in the city and were killed. The monument is built on the same base as the "Monument to the Martyrs of Hiroshima Prefectural Hiroshima Second Girls' High School," which commemorates the students who were exposed to the atomic bomb and lost their lives in the same place. Also, at the entrance to Kojin-do, there is a stone pillar that reads "Atomic Bomb Memorial Zakoba Evacuation Site Site."
