[Date of construction] May 19, 1957 [Constructor] Matoba Town Atomic Bomb Memorial Construction Committee [History] In 1946, the local people who lived in shacks built on the ruins of the area held a memorial service for the townspeople who fell victim to the atomic bomb. As the memorial service was held every year at nearby temples, calls for the construction of a monument were made, and after fundraising, the monument was erected. The names of the 67 townspeople who fell are inscribed at the bottom. Every year on August 6th, a Bon dance is held in front of the monument in memory of the townspeople.
