The names of the 288 victims are inscribed on the back of the monument.
[Date of construction] August 6, 1953 [Constructor] Memorial Monument Construction Committee [History] At the time, the Hiroshima Post Office building was located across the street from Shima Hospital, the hypocenter, and everyone in the building was killed. The victims included 55 teachers and students from Gion Girls' High School (now AICJ Junior and Senior High School) and Honkawa National School Senior High School, who were mobilized at the time. The monument was moved to its current location in 1953. The names of the 288 victims are inscribed on the back of the monument. There is another monument to commemorate the victims of the Hiroshima Post Office employees, the "Hiroshima Post Office Employees' Martyrs in the Line of Duty" (Naka Ward). In addition, there is a monument to commemorate the victims of the postal service, including the Hiroshima Post Office, the "Postal Service Employees' Memorial" (Naka Ward).
