This monument was located in front of the Butokuden (a martial arts hall located within the prefectural office) to commemorate the police officers who died in the line of duty. In 1946, following the occupation policy, the government issued a policy to remove memorials to the dead from schools and public land, and it was moved to its current location. The names of the 441 people who died in the line of duty (354 of whom were victims of the atomic bomb) are inscribed on the bottom of the back of the monument.
