The names of the 45 victims are inscribed on the back of the monument.
[Date of erection] August 1975 [Erected by] Former Ship Communications Corps Replacement Special Officer Candidate Corps and Wakashio Sentsukai volunteers [History] Special ship officer candidates were student soldiers who volunteered to turn the tide of the war at the end of World War II. After their training on Shodoshima, they were transferred to Hiroshima and stayed at Senda National School (now Senda Elementary School, about 1.7 km from the hypocenter) to receive their education. On August 6th, the bomb was dropped on the school grounds during morning roll call, and all of the students were injured, including the third-year students who were returning to camp. The names of the 45 victims are inscribed on the back of the monument.
