Many residents of the Kannon Higashi district were mobilized to help with building evacuation efforts in the city center and fell victim to the atomic bombing. This monument was erected to commemorate these people and other victims in the district.

This monument was erected to commemorate these people and other victims in the district. In July 1975, a statue of Saint Shinran was placed on the monument's base. There is another monument to commemorate the victims of the Kannon East district, the Kannon East District Atomic Bomb Victims Memorial (Nishi Ward), just like this one.
