Kusatsu Minamimachi Volunteer Citizens Memorial Monument

At the top of the monument, where the inscription is engraved, there is also a document inscribed with the military order of the time, "Transmission of the Order to Mobilize the Volunteer Citizen Corps."

[Date of erection] August 2, 1981 [Erected by] Association for constructing a memorial monument for the Kusatsu Minamimachi Volunteer Corps, and all the surviving families of the Kusatsu Minamimachi Volunteer Citizen Corps [History] The Kusatsu Minamimachi Volunteer Citizen Corps were deployed to Koamicho (900 meters from the hypocenter) to help with building evacuation, and 157 people were killed. The number of casualties was approximately 10% of the town's population at the time. Next to the monument is a memorial monument with the names of the victims inscribed on it. Also, at the top of the monument with the inscription engraved on it is a document from the military order of the time, "Transmission of the Order to Dispatch the Volunteer Citizen Corps."
