[Date of construction] March 19, 1988 [Constructor] Shukkeien Atomic Bomb Victims Memorial Association [History] In late July 1987, a photograph of Shukkeien taken just after the bombing was discovered, and in one of the photographs, three signs reading "Graves of 38 War Dead," "Graves of 5 War Dead," and "Graves of 21 War Dead" were seen side by side. On July 31 and August 1 of the same year, the Prefectural Board of Education excavated the remains, collecting several thousand bone fragments, which were interred in the Atomic Bomb Memorial Mound on the 6th. This led to the formation of a memorial association made up of 11 groups, including local neighborhood associations and senior citizens' clubs, and the monument was erected.
