A memorial monument to console the souls of those who died in the atomic bombing and those who have died in the line of duty since the company was founded.
[Date of construction] July 1977 [Constructor] Hiroshima Electric Railway Co., Ltd. [History] Approximately 190 people, including mobilized students, lost their lives in the atomic bombing, including about 30 students from Hiroshima Electric Railway Home Economics Girls' School (now closed), who operated trains and buses together with the company's employees. The memorial was erected to console the souls of these victims and those who have died in the line of duty since the company was founded. The city's tram cars suffered devastating damage, with 108 of the 123 cars destroyed, but repairs began in the afternoon of the day of the bombing, and service resumed on some sections on August 9. It is said that the sight of the trains running again greatly encouraged people, and two of the atomic bomb-damaged trams are still in commercial operation today. *Please contact us in advance if you wish to visit (please call 082-242-3521 with the desired date and time of the visit, the representative's name, the number of visitors, and contact information).
