[Date of erection] August 3, 2004 (Heisei 16) [Erected by] Hirose School District Atomic Bomb Victims Construction Committee [History] This monument was erected with donations from local residents and other funding. The Hirose school district was located relatively close to the hypocenter, and over 5,000 people were killed there. At the time, Hirose National School (now Hirose Elementary School) was located in Hirose Kitamachi, 1.1 kilometers from the hypocenter, and over 100 children were killed there. In 1950 (Showa 25), the school moved to its current location. *No tours are available on school holidays. Tour hours are from 8:30am to 5pm.
