[Date of construction] July 31, 1990 [Constructor] Ichikokai Atomic Bomb Memorial Construction Committee [History] Hiroshima Municipal First Higher Elementary School (now Danbara Junior High School) was renamed First National School in 1941 (Showa 16). Of the 671 teachers, staff and students at the school, over 150 were exposed to the bomb while working on building evacuation in Showa-cho (1.5 km from the hypocenter), but the exact number of deaths is unknown. It is also said that many students were mobilized to work in munitions factories and became victims. At the time of its construction, the number of known victims was 11 teachers and staff and 51 students. In 2011 (Heisei 23), the monument was moved to its current location due to the relocation of Danbara Junior High School. *Opening is not possible on school holidays.
