At the time, it is said that dozens of people were cremated at one time. A wooden monument erected in 1946 fell down in a typhoon in 1959, and the current monument was erected afterwards. On August 5, 2010, the 50th anniversary of the monument's erection, renovation work was carried out, including the installation of a new explanatory plaque.
