It was built to commemorate the war dead from the Satsuma Rebellion to the Pacific War and the victims of the atomic bomb in the former village of Nagatsuka.

[Date of erection] April 29, 1954 (Restored) [Erected by] Nagatsuka District Volunteers and Bereaved Families Association [History] This monument was erected to commemorate the war dead and atomic bomb victims from the Satsuma Rebellion to the Pacific War in the former Nagatsuka Village (121 people. Of these, 43 were atomic bomb victims: 26 mobilized students, 4 volunteer corps members, 4 conscripted workers, 4 soldiers, 3 military personnel, and 2 members of the Patriotic Labor Corps). The monument was originally erected in 1913, but in response to the occupation policy, the government issued a policy in 1946 (removal of memorials to the dead from schools and public land), and the local residents filled the characters "Monument to the Dead" with cement to preserve it. In 1954, when the monument was restored, the victims of the atomic bomb and others were also memorialized. It was moved to its current location in August 2010.
