It was built by an individual naval officer to commemorate those who died in war from the Sino-Japanese War through the Pacific War and those who fell victim to the atomic bomb in the Koda area.
[Date of erection] March 1969 [Erecter] Morikawa Shigesato [History] An individual who was a naval officer erected this monument to commemorate the war dead from the Sino-Japanese War to the Pacific War and the victims of the atomic bomb in the Koda area (13 people. Of these, three were victims of the atomic bomb: one prefectural employee, one military officer, and one paramilitary employee). The names of the victims are inscribed at the bottom of the front of the monument. The name of one paramilitary employee who was found to have died in the atomic bombing after the monument was erected was written in ink, but it has now disappeared. Every year in early August, a memorial service is held by the bereaved families.
